We’re Sean & Beatrice.
Nomadic Mauritians, led by Sean and Beatrice, strive to inspire and guide others through the journey of cultural immersion, authentic travel experiences, and the digital nomad lifestyle. They aim to help their audience discover local gems, embrace slow travel, and navigate life as modern nomads, sharing personal stories, challenges, and joys along the way.
Sean and Beatrice are full-time slow travellers from Mauritius. They’ve been travelling as a husband & wife digital nomad couple for 5+ years, and now seek to share their learned lessons, travel information and advice to aspiring as well as current digital nomads.
After their dream to emigrate abroad went awry, their nomad life began. In early 2019, they sold most of their worldly possessions, ended their rental lease, and bought a return ticket out of Mauritius (not one-way for Mauritian passport holders, unless you secured residency elsewhere).
They’ve travelled the world ever since, as perpetual travellers, digital nomads, slomads.
P.S: The ticket back to Mauritius was never used and we’re grateful our family still remembers us.
Our Mission
Most digital nomad resources out there promote this: move to a tropical island, enjoy a never ending summer, and live on the cheap.
But what if – like us – you are already from a tropical island [or other paradise-like place] where the currency compared to the dollar is reeeeally low, and want to slow travel as a digital nomad, even when it requires moving to higher cost of living countries?

The truth is being a digital nomad is more than working from a beach island, it is an alternative way of life. Some of you might want the flexibility to ski in July, or learn from other cultures. It’s the freedom of location-independence and how you’ll best use that privilege with wisdom and responsibility.
That’s why we created this blog: we want to share the realities of digital nomad life. In other words, what’s it like moving from one location to the next, cross-cultural living, and balancing work and play.
As we’re citizens of and holders of passports from Mauritius. we do this from a Mauritian perspective.
If you’re a Mauritian (or from any developing nation) you will most likely relate and identify with a lot of the challenges and restrictions we have faced at times. We also provide the solutions we’ve discovered and other tips that have worked. However, if you’re from the States or the U.K or anywhere else, you’ll still be able to get a good view of what it’s truly like to slow travel as a digital nomad couple.
We want to build a bridge and add our voices for a more balanced conversation around slow travel & digital nomad lifestyle. This means delving into local cultures across the various countries we visit, how we spend our months in a given destination, and handle all the intricacies of nomad life.
You’ll see how we apply geo-arbitrage, manage health, foster friendships, deal with paperwork and visas, choose where to go, stay organised and disciplined in our work, while slow travelling. We also teach you how to leverage pet sitting and house sitting which we’re doing during our nomad life abroad.

Here, you’ll find inspiration, resources, and advice based on our own extensive research and on-field experiences living nomadically for the past five years (and counting). We also share in-depth posts about the destinations we’ve visited – often staying more than a month and experiencing daily life overseas.
We don’t think you have to quit your job or retire early, although that’s fine if that’s your goal.
It’s possible to start where you are, with what you have, and build from there.
We travel independently doing all the flight and accommodation bookings and itinerary planning ourselves.
All the photos on our blog are taken & edited by ourselves, unless specified otherwise and all the posts are written by us as well. You’ll see each author’s name under every post.

Our travel ethos
Our vision is to be a trusted source and community for digital nomads, cultural explorers, and slow travellers, offering practical advice, inspiring content, and genuine connections across the globe.
🍃 sights over sites – museums, castles, and ruins are great but so are mundane places for those who learn to see.
🍃 being versus doing – we aren’t interested in Top Ten Things To Do; let’s normalize being. Maybe sitting at a café and watching daily life; it can teach us a lot more about a place than by zipping cross-country to do and see #allthethings.
🍃 go slowly, go gently – we want our actions and travel footprints to be gentle on people + planet as much as possible
🍃 travellers not tourists – for immigration purposes we are on ‘tourist status’ but we are travellers first and foremost. This means the travel is in the journey itself, not only at the destination.
🍃 JOMO versus FOMO – we have zero desire to tick off all the countries in the world and have no bucket-lists of tourist attractions or world wonders. We don’t country-count and often return to the same place to discover it deeper. We’re also happy to skip Instagrammable locations just because we know from experience that social media isn’t real; it’s often heavily-filtered images taken at 4am in a gifted glamorous gown.
🍃 live like a local – adapting our diet to include the local, seasonal produce; connecting with locals, wandering along local neighbourhoods, doing what locals do (e.g eating popcorn by the corniche in La Marsa, read a book at the local library in Winchester, U.K, or head out for la passeggiata in Florence, Italy).

Together, we are the founders behind Nomadic Mauritians. Welcome to our corner of the internet where we cover the topics of slow travel and the digital nomad lifestyle.
Our approach to travel is mindful.
- We strive for meaningful moments more than completing the Top 10 Things To Do in a destination.
- We care where our food comes from {food allergies/ intolerance sufferers can relate} and have deep respect for farmers, artisans & local chefs; we don’t mind giving trendy Instagrammable eateries a miss.
- We live nomadically—our home is wherever we nest, we don’t “take trips” seeing we’re already on a long-term trip for many years.
